Tactics Prove Senate Not Serious About Protecting the American People
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Tea Party Patriots today blasted the White House and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) for offering a bill that is non-negotiable and changes the law regarding the budget cuts already in place from the last debt ceiling crisis. They urged Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and his colleagues to hold firm on including delaying funding of Obamacare in all further negotiations.
“If it weren’t so absurd, the Senate Majority Leader’s proposal would be laughable,” said Jenny Beth Martin, co-founder of Tea Party Patriots. “Republicans have come to the table time and time again and have been willing to compromise. We say NO MORE COMPROMISE. Their ‘proposal’ is a step backward and should be non-negotiable.
“The House has offered numerous bills to fund the government and to protect the American people from this ‘train wreck’ of a law. It is time the GOP Senators unequivocally stand shoulder to shoulder with their colleagues in the House and stand firm in the fight to protect the American people from Obamacare. The recent plan proposed by Sen. Collins does NOT do enough, and instead, undercuts all of the hard work over the past several months.
“We don’t need any more plans that concede defeat without ever receiving a concession from the Democrats. Sen. Collins and the Senate Minority Leadership have negotiated with themselves and lowered the bar, and President Obama still refuses to compromise,” continued Mrs. Martin.
“Senator Reid’s plan indicates that the Democrats are not serious about negotiations even while in Seattle, WA the United Food and Commercial Workers labor union announced plans yesterday that they are preparing to go on strike in opposition to Obamacare. It is time for Sen. Reid to the facts: Obamacare is unworkable and unaffordable for the American people.
“We applaud those House Republicans who have courageously refused to be cowed and continue to work to protect the American people. Obamacare is not ready and is unfair! If big business and Members of Congress receive an exemption, so should the American people. We urge the House and Senate Republicans not to give up and not to settle for anything less than agreement that stops Obamacare’s unfair treatment for the American people.”
